LazyLawn has added the finishing touch to the brand new adventure golf course at the new Center Parcs Village; Woburn Forest in Bedfordshire.

The UK’s biggest artificial grass brand has transformed 1,500 square metres of imitation turf into a nine-hole golf course at the new Woburn Forest holiday Village, which will officially open on 6th June.

Showcase Greens, LazyLawn licensee and golf course specialists, won the £300,000 contract after refurbishing golf courses at other Center Parcs locations.

David Lowe, of Showcase Greens, comments: “We specialise in installing artificial golf greens and have extensive experience in combining turf types to create courses that are realistic in appearance, which is why Center Parcs selected us for this project.

“This has been an exciting project to work on, due to the complexities of the course’s design.

“We have used five types of turf with varying pile heights and colouring, which emulates the different textures of grass a golf course requires.

“The result is incredibly effective, as the course looks authentic and delivers a realistic playing experience, but it is much lower maintenance than natural grass.

The adventure golf course is expected to attract a high footfall, so our man-made turf provides a more suitable surface and offers greenkeepers numerous benefits, as it requires no watering, no mowing and it’s impossible to create divots in the turf.

“As a result, the grass looks a lush green colour all year round and does not suffer from muddy patches or dry patches.”

LazyLawn’s top turfs were used for the project: Grass Park Junior was used to create the course’s fairways due to its low pile height, alongside Wonder Yarn in 26mm and 36mm pile heights, which has been installed to create semi and deep rough areas.

Meadow Twist, which is available in alternative colours including brown and blue, has provided a mess free alternative to bunkers and water, while four-metre circles of Nylon Pro have created a top-of-the-range professional putting green surface.

A second nine-hole golf course will be installed during autumn 2014.

Center Parcs isn’t the only organisation to choose man-made grass instead of natural grass for its adventure golf courses.

David adds: “Artificial golf courses are growing in popularity as more clubs become aware of the major benefits they offer; we are currently installing around 35 golf greens every year and are confident the trend will continue to grow.”

LazyLawn has a number of well-known fans, including Amanda Holden and Alan Titchmarsh, and provided £250,000 worth of artificial turf for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The turf specialist was also the first artificial grass brand to ever appear at the Chelsea Flower Show, has installed the Big Brother garden for eight consecutive years and is currently working on a number of projects for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2014.
